PSSN MINUTES
November 20, 2008
ATTENDEES: Cleopatra Adams (Caring Home Help), Charles and Marlene Armstrong (Marlene’s Low Vision), Annette Balis ( Home Instead), Diane Barben (The Campus of Anna Maria) Eric Bloniarz (Medical Service Co.), Denise Czech (Crossroads Hospice) , Jane Gwinn (FCS/Senior Track), B.K.Hall (Emeritus Senior Living), Lauren Humphrey (Alzheimer’s Assoc.), Dorothy Jones (PC Society of the Blind), Laurel Kane (Portage Home Health), Michele C. President Genel Nichols called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. and called for introductions and announcements.
Michele Kairis announced that the Brunch Bunch fund raiser will be held on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 27 at the American Legion from 8:00 a.m.- noon. The funds will be used to assist local food pantries and Adult Day Center.
Dorothy Jones announced the meeting of the Society of the Blind will be held on Nov. 24 at the 1ST Christian Church of God in Ravenna at 2:00 p.m.
Genel Nichols reported that all PSSN meetings for the year 2009 have been scheduled at ROC 705 Oakwood St. Ravenna in the Community Room.
Program: Arlyene Habead from Community Action Council (CAC) presented 27 programs CAC provides for the community. Arylene explained about specific programs that assist seniors: Title XX for home repairs and utility assistance. Arlyene provided CAC’s web site to get more information about the programs: CACportage.net
Secretary’s report:
B.K. Hall motioned to accept the minutes with the correction that the Santa for Senior wrapping party will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. not from 1-4 p.m. on Dec. 10. The motion was seconded by Mary Kay Stevens and the motion passed.
Treasurer’s report :
Eric Bloniarz presented the treasurer’s report and it will be forwarded for review. The current balance is $3,717.77
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Community Relations: Jane Gwinn reported the committee met to plan the Holiday Giving Tree program, Mandy Zantow announced the PSSN members holiday party will be held on Dec. 5 at the Crossings at Golden Pond to be catered. Members are asked to provide a $5 or less unwrapped gift for a senior and a white elephant gift. Jane Gwinn reminded members to send in registration form and money for the luncheon before December 2. Denise Czech suggested some new ideas to promote PSSN working with the membership committee. The next committee meeting will be January 21, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. at the Loyalton of Ravenna.
Education Committee: Jane Gwinn reported that the programs for 2009 are being confirmed. The January meeting at the Reed Memorial Library will be confirmed and announced to members on the web site.
Client Services Committee B.K Hall distributed minutes of the last committee meeting and a list of local and state officers. B.K. Hall announced about the speakers series for the next few months. B.K. Hall also announced that plans to create a Senior Advocate award is being tabled until the January 2009 meeting.
Membership Committee-.Charles Armstrong encouraged member to sign up on the PSSN web site. The next meeting of the committee is January 20, 2009 9:00 a.m. at Bob Evans in Kent (at Rt. 261& Rt. 43).
Old Business: Genel announced that the tri-fold for PSSN is being corrected and reprinted. Annette Balis reminded members about the Santa for Senior Program and to have gifts purchased and returned to the stores or sites by December 5. Trees sites are: FCS office at ROC in Ravenna, Kent and Streetsboro WalMart stores, Streetsboro, Rootstown and Ravenna Giant Eagle, Home Instead office in Aurora, Aurora Premium Outlets and the Aurora Senior Center.
New Business.: The next meeting is the Holiday Party December 5 at noon at the Crossings at KentRidge in Kent. The next regular PSSN meeting will be January 22, 2009. The tentative location is the Reed Memorial Library and will be announced in the web site.
