PSSN MINUTES
August 25, 2011
ATTENDEES: Area Agency on Aging(Carol Haas), Comfort Keepers(Lucy Bibbee), Crossroads Hospice(Denise Czech-Dydo), F&CS MAP/Caring Home Help(Mary Tuck), Four Corners Promotions(David Ullmo), Glaser Sr. Health Insurance(David Glaser), Home Instead Sr. Care(Jane Gwinn & Lisa Little), Homewatch Caregivers(Stacie Russell), Kentridge @ Golden Pond(Genel Nichols), Legacy(Judy Fear), Marlene’s Low Vision(Charles & Marlene Armstrong), Maxim Healthcare(N. Recker), Po. Co. APS(Rebecca Hayes), Po. Co. JFS/APS(CathiRufener), Po. Co. Sr. Center(Dee Lynn) Po. Co. District Library(Barb Pochedly), Po. Co. PRESIDENT – Denise Czech-Dydo called the meeting to order @ 9AM and thanked Carol Haas of Area Agency on Aging for the refreshments and Stacie Russell of Homewatch Caregivers for the raffle prize.
MINUTES – A motion was made by Stacie Russell to accept the July Minutes. Seconded by Dave Ullmo and carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT – Given by Denise. Dues have been received from Kent Healthcare.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
EDUCATION: Stacie reported that programs are scheduled through 2011.
MEMBERSHIP: Genel reported that the committee met and set a goal of 50 members for 2012. They will sponsor a breakfast @ Kentridge on Nov. 3rd, 8-9 AM for current members to bring potential members. Dues are due Jan. 1,2012 and members are urged to be timely in payment to be eligible for the drawing of a “big prize”.
PSSN Officers will make arrangements for the Christmas Party.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS: Arrangements are complete for the Harvest Ball to be held @ the Ravenna Elks Lodge on Oct. 19, 11-1:30 @ $10.00 per person. All Sr. Centers in Po. Co. have tickets. PSSN members are asked to provide a door prize of a basket or gift card. Only the Committee will attend due to space limitations.
OLD BUSINESS – Denise assembled and delivered a $50.00 gift basket to the Streetsboro Sr. Citixens Foundation for their fundraiser.
NEW BUSINESS: Denise read a commendation from the Ohio House of Representatives, congratulating PSSN for the 10th Anniversary. PSSN members were described as dynamic leaders in the community. Rep. Kathleen Clyde sponsored the commendation.
Denise reported that a meeting was held on Aug. 12 @ the Sr. Center where the Area Agency on Aging explained the cuts in funding for Sr. Services in 2012. A form has been prepared for Seniors to list their reactions to the loss of funding and their concerns. Another meeting will be held on Sept. 16th @ 9AM in the Sr. Center in Ravenna. PSSN members are urged to attend.
WEB SITE : Lisa Little will contact Maplewood Career Center for an appointment.
PROGRAM: Stacy Russell introduced Jeannie Flossy who described behaviors in Dementia/Alzheimers patients. Normal and abnormal behaviors are difficult to define and not always related to their disease. Depression is present in 100 per cent of Alzheimers patients. Emotional and intellectual well being is primary and they need to feel loved. Accidents are the most common cause of death.
Dave Glaser of Glaser Sr. Health Insurance won the raffle prize.
A motion to adjourn was made by Jane Gwinn and seconded by Stacie Russell.
