President Genel Nichols called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m. at the Reed Memorial Library and called for introductions and announcements.
Michele Kairis announced that a Dessert Extravaganza fund raiser event on July 22 will benefit Coleman Adult Day Care.
Lauren Humphrey announced the Memory Walk will be held Oct. 3 at Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls. Janette Messimo announced a lawn concert will be held at the Woodlands July 6 at 7:00 p.m. Jim Lenahan announced on July 10 a program on Macular Degeneration will be held at Rockyknoll in Akron.
Genel announced on Wed, July 15 at 9:15 a.m. the first PSSN sponsored Alzheimer’s program, “Joggin your Noggin”, will be held at the Portage county Senior Center. PSSN members are encouraged to attend to show support for the program. Genel noted that PSSN will sponsor this one hour program for all the Senior Centers in Portage County. Dates for future programs will be announced at a later date.
SECRETARY’S REPORT: Claudette Rogers motioned to accept the minutes and Pam Oslin-Hart seconded and the motion was approved.
TREASURERS REPORT: The report was forwarded for review.
PROGRAM: Elizabeth Thames- Deputy State Director for Senator Sherrod Brown spoke about the structure of the government office at the state level. Elizabeth discussed senior issues and the impact of the poor economic condition which she explained is the worst since the depression. Elizabeth explained the contents of the Recovery package which contained 3.7 million for nutrition. Elizabeth noted Senator Sherrod Brown sits on many committees which include: Veterans, Banking, Agriculture, Health and Education and Labor pensions (HELP). Elizabeth encouraged those writing letters to support particular issues fax them to Senator Sherrod Brown at the Cleveland office and to the attention of Elizabeth to assure faster access to the Senator.
COMMITTEE REPORTS: Were suspended for this meeting.
